Welcome to the governor section of the website where
you can find out more about our school's governors, and the work that they
do.
Hinguar Primary Governors are committed to their aim
of ensuring our school is a exciting learning environment for all pupils to
feel safe and secure to enjoy and achieve during their time at our school.
The Role of the Hinguar Primary School Governing
Body is to :
- Set the broad strategy for the school's development
,
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of its strategy
and regularly review the framework for the school in the light of that
progress.
- Be accountable to the Local Authority, parents,
pupils and the wider community;
- Act in accordance with statutory regulations and
the school's Instrument of Government;
- Act fairly and without prejudice at all times.
The Structure of Hinguar Primary Governing
Body
Each member of the Governing Body attends a full
Governing Body at least once a term. Each member of the Governing Body is also
a member of a sub-committee, which concentrates on specific areas of managing
the school. These sub-committees meet once a term and are as follows:
- Finance and Premises
- Curriculum and Personnel
There are also other committees that meet time to time
to cover a specific task- the setting and review of the Head teacher's
performance agreement for example.
There are several categories of governor.
Parent Governors
Parent governors are elected by parents of pupils on
the school roll at the time of election. They must be parents of pupils on the
school roll themselves to stand for election. Parent governors do not have to
stand down if their child leaves the school during the period they serve,
though they may do if they wish. They may stand for re-election at the end of
their term of office if they still have a child on the school roll. If not
enough parents stand for election, parent governors may be appointed by the
governing body.
Staff Governors
Staff governors are elected by the staff from among
the teachers and non-teaching staff at a school.
Community Governors.
Community governors are appointed by the governing
body. When deciding who to co-opt as a community governor the governing body
reflects upon the balance of expertise and aims to recruit to add specific
areas of expertise to the governing body.
Local Authority Governors
Local Authority (LA) governors are appointed by the
local authority that maintains the school. Authorities can decide to fill these
posts to reflect the local political balance, although such governors are
primarily appointed with a view to their commitment to raise standards at the
school concerned.
Here is a list of governors with their roles, and the
committees on which they sit. |
