The Governing Body

Governing Body Mission Statement

The Governing Body works together in close partnership with the Headteacher ensuring the successful leadership, organisation and management of the school to promote high standards of a child's development including educational achievement, physical and emotional well being.

At Hinguar Primary School and Nursery we have an active governing body who are committed to  providing a clear, strategic direction for the school. Our governors carry out a number of important duties including:

  • Determining how the school’s budget is spent.
  • Setting high standards and expectations for pupils achievements and behaviour.
  • Working within the expectations of the schools aims and values.
  • Hearing appeals and grievances.
  • Forming policies and holding staff accountable for implementing these policies.
  • Ensuring the school building and premises are safe.

The Governing Body is organised as follows:

The Full Governing Body (FGB). Every Governor is a member of the Full Governing Body and meets together each half term. The Governing Body works hard to ensure that through their meetings and visits to the school they know the school very well.

Portfolio Holders.

Each Governor is a portfolio holder and works individually or in teams to monitor and oversee their delegated responsibility. Portfolio holders will organise specific monitoring activities pertinent to their area being monitored. These could include:talking to pupils or staff, looking at pupils work and displays or meeting with subject leaders and key persons.

Working Parties

These are set up by Governors, when needed to fulfil a specific project. Members of the working party can include governors, members of staff, parents or members of the community with relevant skills and knowledge to help.

Formal records of all Governing Body meetings are taken and filed by the Clerk. Once agreed , minutes are then available to view. Should you wish to read any of the Governors' minutes, please make a request via the school office.

If you would like any further information regarding our governing body please contact the Chair of Governors Mr M Sweeting  msweeting@hinguar.southend.sch.uk
